Disaster Relief: Emergency Preparedness Fair & Classes - 10/11
What would your family do if your home were hit by a tornado or you had a fire? Do you know how to use a fire extinguisher? Do you know First Aid?
On Saturday, October 11th, 9am-3pm, Resurrection will be presenting an Emergency Preparedness Fair for members/visitors of Resurrection as well as all other churches in the area. There will be many classes for adults/youth, and booths and outside displays for families including:
- FEMA Trailer, CERT Trailer, Reach & Restore Disater Response Trailer
- CPR and First Aid Classes
- Crisis Dogs & Therapy Horses
- Leawood Fire Department - Fire Truck
- Leadwood Police Department - Police Car
- UMCOR and KS East Conference
- Red Cross, Salvation Army, Kansas City COAD
- Sheridan's Frozen Custard
- Backyard Burgers lunch can be purchased for $5.50

Register Online - You must register in advance for ALL Classes.
All classes are provided at NO Cost.
Class Age Requirement: Youth must at least 12 to attend classes; ages 12-15 must be accompanied by an adult; ages 16 and older can attend alone unless otherwise specified.
Basic Disaster Response
Get an overview of Basic Disaster Response as provided by United Methodists. It will also provide information regarding how all disaster response organizations work together to provide assistance.
- Recommended Audience: Clergy, Church Staff & Leadership, all other audiences.

Chainsaw Safety and Use
The automatic chain break on Stihl chainsaws stops the chain in 0.3 seconds, however by then the chain moves 9 feet resulting in 110 stitches to you. This course is designed to provide the background to safe chainsaw operation. This two-part class begins with a classroom presentation in the morning which is the perquisite to the afternoon hands-on class. Anyone wishing to participate in the afternoon part of the class – the ‘hands-on’ portion - will need to attend the morning classroom portion.
- Recommended Audience: All audiences; Must be at least 18 years old to participate in the hands-on portion of the class held in the afternoon.

CPR & AED Training
This Program is designed to give you the confidence to respond in an emergency situation regarding CPR with the skills that can save a life. The training is free. If you wish to receive the official certification card at the end of training, you will be responsible for the payment of $23.
- Recommended Audience: All Audiences 16 years and older; Class maximum: 15

- Class Time: 12:00 Noon – 3:00PM
First Aid Training
This Program is designed to give you the confidence to respond in an emergency situation regarding first aid with skills that can save a life. The training is free. If you wish to receive the official Certification Card at the end of your training, you will be responsible for the payment of $15.
- Recommended Audience: All Audiences 16 years and older

- Class Time: 9:00AM – 11:30AM
Fire Safety
This presentation gives you valuable fire safety information, discusses the common causes of fires in the home, how to prepare and prevent a fire and what to do if a fire occurs.
- Recommended Audience: Suitable for all audiences; Class max 20
- Presenter: American Red Cross, Greater Kansas City Chapter
- Class Time: 12:30PM – 1:30PM
How to Write Your Local Church Disaster Response Plan (Laypersons)
This presentation will provide vital information to lay members including a step-by-step guide to creating a comprehensive disaster response plan designed to respond to disasters which directly or indirectly affects the local church and community.
- Recommended Audience: Church Leadership & Staff, all audiences

Keep your Church Operational after a Disaster
How would your local church respond if one of its facilities was significantly damaged during a natural disaster? This presentation will focus on the processes required for a church to continue to function as a business and faith community after the impact of a disaster.
