Women: School of Mission

July 10-12, 2008 in Topeka

“Living the Sacred” is the theme of the 2008 Schools of Christian Mission sponsored by United Methodist Women around the country. Schools of Christian Mission participants will be challenged to deepen their understanding of and commitment to the sacredness of life, creation and faith through this year’s studies exploring:

  • Israel-Palestine – the geographic study focusing on the history and complexities of relationships between these nations, and the concepts of security and freedom that dominate the lives of these peoples;
  • Giving Our Hearts Away: Native American Survival – the issue study sharing the story of Indigenous peoples of the United States from a Native American perspective to understand the inter-relatedness of Native Americans and their lands, key issues affecting Native American communities today and Native American cultural perspectives on spirituality, the environment and community.
  • I Believe in Jesus – the spiritual growth study addressing the gift of faith in Jesus Christ and the meaning of that faith in a post-modern world.

This summer's event will be held at Washburn University in Topeka.  Attendees are invited to stay in the dorms and bring children.  Resurrection member Charlotte Morrow will lead "I Believe in Jesus."  Attendees will also choose between the geographic study or the mission study.  Youth and elementary attendees will have their own study and activities based on the Native American study.  Scholarships offered to first-time attendees; anyone can attend!
