Women: Write a Devotion

COR Women Devotional Book

Submit your story:

COR Women is assembling, what we pray, will be an inspiring devotional book.  We want to give a voice to the women of Resurrection so that their stories can encourage other women to grow closer to Christ.

Would you write a devotional for this book? Sharing your story will be a wonderful blessing for all.  The first step is to pre-register your devotional by selecting a topic and verse from the list provided in the online registration.  You will then receive detailed instructions on how to write your story (also listed below).  You may write, type, or email the final version of your devotional before October 1.   The stories will go through a selection process and then be edited and compiled into a devotional book to be made available for purchase at the Women's Conference on February 6-7, 2009.

Click on "online" registration at the right of this screen to select your topic and verse, and to receive detailed instructions.  To request additional information, call 913-232-4197.

INSTRUCTIONS:  As Christians, we believe God speaks to us and guides us as we study the Bible and pray.  Devotionals are strongly tied to scripture and can make the messages of the Bible come alive. The stories help us to explore, search, and ask questions.  Let’s begin! Here are some thoughts adapted from The Upper Room to get you started:

1) Pray about what God would have you write. Keep it focused on one idea such as patience, healing, etc. This idea can be from your personal experience, some one else's or  perhaps an occurence in the Bible.

2) Describe the situation that you link to a Bible  passage, using a specific incident. Write down as many details of the real-life situation as you can. For example, if you write about an incident when people  were talking, write down what each person said.

3) What did you or they lack before God intervened? What did God do to help you learn more about Him? What is the before and after scenario?

4) Tell how you can apply this spiritual truth in days to  come.

5)Where do you go from here? Because of what God did for you, what is your response? Encourage the reader to look further into the idea, but be careful of not preaching your message ("you should ...," "you need to ...," "we must ...," etc.). You want to share your devotional ideas as a source of encouragement.

6) Seek always to encourage readers to deeper engagement with the Bible.

7) Use language and examples that appeal to the five senses. Tell what you heard, saw, touched, smelled, tasted.  When appropriate, use dialogue to tell your story.

8) After a few days, look carefully at what you have written.  Decide which details best convey your message, and delete the others.  Then you are ready to submit your meditation for consideration.

9) All devotions must be received by no later than October 1.  Email completed devotions to kgerry@kc.rr.com.

Things to keep in mind:

  • Each devotional should include: title, verse, meditation (your story) and prayer.
  • Mediations should be no longer than 400 words
  • Previously published material cannot be used.  Use of material that cannot be verified (such as quotes or poems) will hinder publication
  • Make only one point. Think snapshot, not movie
  • Always give the original source of any materials you quote.  Meditations containing quotes or other secondary material that cannot be verified will not be used.
  • If possible, please type your meditation, double-spaced.
  • We are honored by your God inspired submission.  All submissions will go through a selection process and may be edited for size, puncuation, grammar and content.
  • We are committed to making this process as pleasant as possible.  If you have any questions please contact Andrea Gerry (913) 232-4197 or kgerry@kc.rr.com.
