Resurrection Downtown Volunteer Opportunities
Would you like to help build community and change lives in downtown Kansas City by serving on a volunteer team at Resurrection Downtown?
We have many volunteer opportunities. A brief description of each of the positions are listed below. If you're interested in serving on one of these teams, please let us know by completing a volunteer interest form. We'll contact you with more details as they are developed.
Resurrection Downtown Volunteer Opportunities:
- Adult Discipleship Team Leader: Be responsible for small group formation and Alpha classes from the onset.
- Beverage Host: Serve our congregation and guests coffee and tea following worship service; offer exceptional hospitality to create a comfortable place for everyone to fellowship.
- C.A.R.T. (Cardiac Arrest Response Team) Member: Sit in designated seating during worship and be prepared to respond during a heart related medical emergency. Training is required to join this team. The Cardiac Arrest Reponse Team is extremely important and vital to the comfort and safety of our worshipping congregation.
- Communion Team Leader: Lead the Communion Server Team--notify servers regarding communion service schedules, ensure there are enough servers to adequately serve our congregation; assist servers as they clean up and store the elements after service is over.
- Communion Server: Help prepare and serve the celebration of Holy Communion to our congregation. Holy Communion is the highest sacrament of the United Methodist Church, so it is a special and privileged responsibility to serve on this ministry team. You must be an adult who is committed to serving Christ or a teen who has completed Confirmation Class to fill this position.
- Connection Point Consultant: Man the Connection Point before and after each worship service to help integrate people into the life of our church. Connection Point Consultants have the "20,000-foot view" of all ministries and ministry paths into the church. Consultants utilize available communication tools to stay abreast of connection opportunities within our many ministry areas to help inform congregants and connect them into the life of our church.
- Graphics Operator: Operate the video and graphics for our services. Successful individuals will have an ability to stay focused during the entire service, be attentive to detail and have the ability to be flexible in a quick-paced, sometimes stressful enviornment. Requirements include: training on our graphics software (Pro Presenter), familiarity with Mac computers and the ability to arrive 1 hour prior to service start. This role operates on an every other week rotation and we ask for a 6 month commitment. An interview with our Director of Technical Production is required.
- Missions Team Leader: Motivate and equip members and guests of our congregation to become involved in serving others and sharing Christ with the community. Mission leaders must be the "salt and light" when critical needs are identified within our community, nation and world. Ultimately our missions team will be responsible for developing new strategies as ministries grow and opportunities appear.
- Music Team Member: Bring vibrant and meaningful worship music to Resurrection Downtown! Worshipping through music is an essential part of our Sunday evening service. We are seeking an eclectic team of instrumentalists and vocalists to bring challenging, culturally relevant songs to each gathering. A volunteer team of skilled and talented musicians is needed and will work closely with the Director of Musical Arts/Worship Leader to prepare musical offerings. Auditions are required. We'll contact you to schedule your audition.
- Nursery Team Member: Serve the youngest residents of Downtown KC! Nursery team members will have a passion and focus for the youngest members (3 years and under) of our congregation. Helpers in this area are asked to complete Safe and Sacred training which is offered frequently at various churches and locations of Church of the Resurrection. Nursery volunteers will work closely with our paid Nursery staff.
- Office Support Team Member: More details by September 1.
- Prayer Team Member: Pray for prayer requests from the congregation; pray daily over the mission and ministries of our church. Covenant Prayer Team members receive prayer requests by email on Mondays for topical or each weekday for the day of the week and are asked to pray for these requests for at least one week.
- Safety and Security Team Member: Help ensure members and guests at our church can worship in an environment free of disruption and hazards. We welcome volunteers with medical, law enforcement and safety backgrounds but are looking for people who have a passion to serve and protect. Some members of this team may be asked to assist with parking before worship, safety monitoring of parking lots during worship and obsrving and protecting the worship space while the congregation is present. Parking attendants will help ensure that our guests' first impression of Resurrection Downtown is that we're a congregation filled with hospitality.
- Staging Team Member: Set up equipment (band instruments, sound, video, computer, etc.) prior to worship and then remove it after the service is over. You must be able to lift and carry 30 pounds up and down a few stairs; plan to serve an hour before service and a half an hour after service. Training will be provided.
- Usher: Help our congregants find seats, assist during communion and other participatory parts of worship and collect the offering and attendance. Members of the Usher Team must be warm and friendly, yet assertive when necessary. The Usher Team also assists with any situation requiring immediate response during worship such as medical emergencies, severe weather conditions, etc.
- Worship Greeter: Serve in a key role at Resurrection Downtown; be faithful to welcome adults and children; display enthusiasm about our church home; generate an atmosphere of care while warmly receiving and welcoming everyone. Some greeters will be at the doors to welcome congregants to worship while others may assist with handing out bulletins, pens and other items needed for worship.
