7 Days of Prayer
Dear Praying Methodist:
Thanks for coming to this web page and considering mobilizing prayer for Methodism! Late this summer, 80 Methodist pastors gathered to discuss the revitalization of the United Methodist Church. One of our takeaways was this: What could happen if we mobilized all 80 of our congregations to pray the same 7 things on the same 7 days? And then our dream grew larger: What could happen if the entire denomination prayed the same 7 things on the same 7 days? We think the possibilities are God-sized!!!!
Would you join us? We are all planning to pray these 7 requests At a minimum, print the prayer card out and pray these requests yourself. Better yet, though, is to mobilize your local church to pray. Print out the card. Show it to your pastor. Humbly, ask for permission to put in the bulletin. Make enough copies on cardstock for every bulletin. Humbly, ask the pastor to explain and call the congregation to 7 days of prayer. Here’s how we do it: “Would you please take this prayer card home and put it on your bathroom mirror. Every night when you brush your teeth, would you pray for that day’s request? What could happen if hundreds of thousands of Methodists were all praying the same 7 things on the same 7 days?”
We hope your congregation will consider committing seven days before the end of the year to praying for our denomination. Someone has said, “When we work, we work; when we pray, God works!” Let’s pray and ask God to do mighty things in this network of churches that we have come to love called United Methodism. When I pray, coincidences happen, Pastor Jim Leggett Grace Fellowship UMC, Katy, Texas
