Pre-Institute Intensive Workshops

Session I  8:30 am-12:00pm

Catch: Attracting and Connecting Visitors
Debi Nixon, Executive Director Adult Discipleship and Catalyst

As a church, we are called to be outwardly focused. We are called to reach out into the community sharing the good news of the gospel with those who are non and nominally religious. During this pre-Institute workshop you will explore how effective your church is in being outwardly focused, get a grand-scope view of the tools used at Church of the Resurrection such as direct marketing, fishing expeditions, mugging, Coffee with the Pastors,  and then develop your own action steps as you commit to being a church that is reaching out to attract and connect the unchurched in your community.  Consider attending this workshop as a team to discuss how to:

  • Attract visitors in your community
  • Transform into a welcoming environment
  • Connect and do effective follow-up
  • Help individuals on their journey

Student Ministries Forum:
Pressing issues facing ministry with the next generation

Every ministry hoping to reach today’s teenager must think creatively in it’s approach. Join Jason Gant, Director of Student Ministries, his team, and youth leaders from around the country as we explore together the most pressing issues in student ministry today. We will facilitate a forum discussion on these four topics:

  • Discipling students for life beyond high school
  • Raising up the next generation of ministry leaders
  • Ministries of hope and healing for students
  • Relational ministry in an on-line world

Here at Resurrection, we are always seeking out "best practices" and
"new ideas" of how we might share the power and grace of Jesus with the
next generation. Many of you have developed great new strategies, and we
hope you will invest in this year's forum as we explore them together!

Momentum for Life
Rev. Michael Slaughter
Senior Pastor, Ginghamsburg Church

Every follower of Christ needs to find the self-management practices that create momentum for life and guard against the temptation to downsize God's dream. You cannot get to where you want to be in your faith, influence, relationships, vocation, or physical-emotional health if you are not moving forward. From presidents to priests, the landscape is cluttered with the corpses of talented leaders who failed to keep the positive momentum of character development. All leadership begins with self-leadership. I am going to share 5 daily life practices that keep me growing and going for life.

When Financial Crisis Becomes a Stewardship Opportunity
Rev. Drs. Clif Christopher, Founder of Horizons Stewardship Company and Clayton Smith, Executive Director of Generosity

Rev. Drs. Clif Christopher and Clayton Smith will present an extended workshop designed to offer in-depth and relevant tools for local church stewardship and generosity program.  Clif is the founder of Horizons Stewardship Company.  He has provided stewardship leadership to local churches and denominational-wide programs.  Participants are encouraged to read his book, NOT YOUR PARENTS’ OFFERING PLATE—A NEW VISION FOR FINANCIAL STEWARDSHIP.   Clayton is the Executive Pastor of Generosity at Resurrection and has served local churches for over 35 years.  Adam Hamilton newest book ENOUGH- Discovering Joy through Simplicity and Generosity is also a recommended reading for this workshop.

Clif reports that “we must change the culture of stewardship”…for churches to compete in the 21st century they must change the culture of stewardship in their churches from a Pay the Bill message to a Fulfill the Vision message. In the last twenty years churches have lost nearly 50% of their market share of the charitable dollar. This seminar will address what has to be done now to stop the hemorrhage.  Clayton will report on the most recent stewardship operating campaign which has resulted in participation of over 72% of our membership pledging for 2009.  Some of the best practices at Resurrection will be shared.
