Blue Springs Back to School Supply Drive

Get ready for the Back to School Supply Drive!

The start of the school year can be expensive and purchasing school supplies may not fit into a family’s budget when they are struggling to provide for basic needs. Quite often, teachers will pay out of their own pockets for the supplies that students need. Resurrection Blue Springs has a long-term commitment to Wendell Phillips (now Wendell Phillips at Attucks Elementary School) and we are helping to provide these school supplies. Pick up a bag at Guest Services next weekend to fill with purchased school supplies. Don’t have time to shop? Simply donate money towards the purchase of items in bulk – $35 is all it takes to get everything a student will need for the year. Watch for more information in your bulletin next weekend.

Parents Helping Parents

Our primary goal for Parents Helping Parents is to get foster/adoptive parents together to create a sense of community among people who have dedicated their lives to fostering and adopting orphans and children in need.  We want you to learn from one another and support one another on your journey.  This group will be self governed by foster/adoptive parents and the goals/agendas for each meeting will be set by the parents.  If you do not yet have a foster placement, we would still like to have you join the tour at the student center.

Totally FAB Kids Night

While parents have their own meeting, your foster, adoptive and biological kids will have a fun night in the student center.  We know your ability to participate is greatly impacted by your children’s happiness so our primary goal is to create a fun and meaningful two hours for your children.  Activities will be planned for children birth through middle school but high school children are welcome to attend and help out too!  Please register online.

For more information:

If you have any questions about the Totally FAB Kids Night program, please contact MJ Muchow at mjmuchow@everestkc.net.

Sunday, July 24th – Friday, July 29th

Trip Leader: Sam Johnson, High School Minister

This mission trip is for those students entering 9th-12th grade in the Fall 2016 and 2016 High School Graduates.

“Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.”
Matthew 5:16

What is the cost?
The cost of the trip is $350.00 per student and $25.00 for an adult co-mentor. This includes your transportation, meals while in Denver, lodging, and an awesome t-shirt. The only additional cost will be lunch the first and last day while traveling as well as money for any miscellaneous items.
Where do we stay?
Students and adult mission leaders are housed at Littleton United Methodist Church. Every person needs to bring their own sleeping bag and pillow.  Showers are available at a nearby community center.
What kind of work will we be doing?
Every mission trip is unique. This trip includes a variety of service opportunities. We will be serving the Denver community through a variety of projects. Your team may work with children, visit with the elderly, perform light maintenance such as minor repairs/painting homes, yard work (mowing, weeding gardens), picking up trash, helping out at homeless shelters and elderly homes, building wheelchair ramps, cleaning/doing repair work for local parks, or even working in community gardens.  Students will be serving in mission teams with two adult leaders per team. Each team will serve several different mission sites. In addition to serving during the day, all students will participate in Bible study, small group discussions, worship, fellowship, and games.

Training for the trip:  MUST BE COMPLETED BY JULY 1, 2016
Safe Gatherings: Protection of Minors and Developmentally Disabled Adults
All participants 16 and older at the time of the trip are required to take the training and be certified as a Safe Gatherings worker.  If you’ve taken the Safe Gatherings training within the last 4 years, you do not have to repeat the training.  To make it convenient for your schedule, this is now an online class. Once you complete the class and are certified, you will receive an email with your expiration date. (Please allow 4–6 weeks for processing). Once you receive your email you will need to send a copy to the rezlife office. To start the training go to www.safegatherings.com.

This is required for all students participating in this trip even if you’ve been on a mission trip in the past.

This is going to be an amazing experience as we have the awesome opportunity to serve the Lord together while having fun in the process. Be prepared to be stretched and molded in new and different ways during your experience.  Space is limited to 50 students.
