Read great books!
Each month offers a book title to read, with a discussion held the first Tuesday of the following month in an AM group (10-11:30 am) or PM group at Grow Night (7-8:30 pm, with optional dinner for purchase starting at 5:30 pm).
This month's selection:
AM Group is reading Kind of Kin by Rilla Askew
PM Group is reading The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks by Rebecca Skloot
Many of the book choices are based on United Methodist Women's Reading Program which develops a recommended list of book titles to read each year, along with incentive plans that encourage women to:
expand understanding of and participation in God's mission
increase sensitivity to all human beings
encourage critical thinking about issues facing humanity today
grow in understanding of Scripture
enhance self-knowledge and act from that knowledge
strengthen involvement in local and global Christian mission
The books are arranged by categories: Mission, Social Action, Leadership Development, Nurturing Community, Spiritual Growth. Selecting books from each category will help you complete an annual (calendar year) plan of your choice:
Plan I - 5 books per year, one from each category
Plan II - 10 books per year, two from each category
Plan III - 15 books per year, two from each category plus 5 additional
Plan IV - 20 books per year, two from each category plus 10 additional
