Sacred Space

Prayer is the sacred journey of entering into the heart of God.

Sacred Space is a time and place centered and geared to allow individuals to have a safe place to pray, to sit in solitude and silence, to explore and experiment in different styles of prayer, meditation, journaling, listening and contemplation to the ends of dwelling in God’s presence.

This fall session will involve different avenues and methods of prayer, conversations regarding prayer, and the opportunity to pray with others, for others, and on an individual basis.

  • Tuesdays | Firestone Chapel | Building B Narthex
  • The Sacred Space room is open 5:30-7:15pm | Designed for you to come and go as you feel led by the Spirit

Registration is not required.

Meet Your Bible: The New Testament

Survey how the New Testament carries on and completes God’s “big story” of redemption, and see how letters, gospels and the vision of Revelation each do their part in carrying the story to its triumphant completion.

4 weeks: Tuesdays 11/10 - 12/1 | 6:30-8:30pm | Room B214 | Building B

We’ll use the CEB Study Bible, offered to all new Resurrection members for free, as the basis for this study, but it will be helpful no matter which translation and study Bible you use.

Introduction to Christian Theology

Theology is “talk about God” and critical reflection about the Christian faith and what we believe. Even more so, theology is a way of life—what we believe in our heads and hearts should be reflected in the ways we act. Theology involves wonder and wondering about faith-full questions, so the course will engage questions that deepen our understanding of and relationship to God.

Suggested Reading:  Exploring Theology by Elaine A. Robinson (Fortress Press, 2014)

  • Tuesday 12/1 and 12/8 | 6:30-8:30pm | Room C133 | Building C
  • Led by: Professor Nancy Howell

Nancy R. Howell is Professor of Theology and Philosophy of Religion and Oubri A. Poppele Chair in Health and Welfare Ministries at Saint Paul School of Theology. Her upcoming courses at the seminary include Introduction to Systematic Theology and Introduction to Ministry. Her theological research and writing engage questions about how faithful Christian reflection can evoke a deeper relationship with God by embracing the wonder of God’s creation.

Practicing Christmas: an Advent Study

Through the Advent season the church reflects on Jesus’ birth in joyous celebration and spiritual preparation. At the same time, the church looks forward in eager anticipation to the time when Christ returns for his kingdom people. During Advent, Christians around the world live in hope, in prayerful expectation of Jesus’ promised return.

Join Chris Folmsbee, Director of Discipleship, for a four-week class designed to guide you into the full meaning of Advent and Christmas. Chris will lead class participants into an in-depth discussion covering the birth, life, death, resurrection and ascension of Jesus.

Christmas is more than a day or even a season—it is a way of life.

  • 12/1 – The Mission of Jesus
  • 12/8 - Who Do You Say That I Am?

EarthCOR: Green Reads

This fall EarthCOR’s Green Reads will explore how the materialism that creates cluttered spaces and the busyness that steals our joy both lead to an unsustainable culture on a personal and planetary level. More importantly, we’ll gain insight on why that is and develop tools to turn it around.

The format includes a small amount of independent reading. During our time together we will watch a short video and have group discussion. We will be using Priscilla Shirer’s book Breathe: Making Room for Sabbath.

Green Reads is a branch of EarthCOR which promotes caring for all of creation through Green Deeds, Green Reads and Green Seeds.

  • Tuesday 12/1
  • 7:00-8:30pm | B215 | Building B
  • Led by: Erin Chacey
  • Book: Breathe: Making Room for Sabbath by Priscilla Shirer. Purchase online or at a local bookstore. (The Well Bookstore does not carry this book)
