Bless the School: Paint & Restore
Many thanks to the hundreds of volunteers who helped make Bless the School 2011 a success this year. It was a wonderful redesign of this project that took us to each of the 5 schools we have blessed, for 3 days at a time.
We began our journey at Quindaro Elementary in KCK where we touched up trim on the doorways, painted bathrooms and hallways, installed a mural, and eventually striped their playsurface with foursquare, basketball courts, hopscotch pads, map of the United States, compass, curbed the planting beds. etc.
Our second journey was to Welborn Elementary in KCK where we also painted trim and bathrooms, cleaned out landscaping, stairs and stair treads, made some minor repairs and installed another mural.
The third leg of this trip took us to Troost Elementary in KCMO where we striped the gym floor, installed a tile entry, patched a lot of water damage, weeded landscaping and painted yellow and orange walls in our sleep.
Session four found us at Wendell Phillips, where we painted turquoise trim, installed a mural, hung many bulletin boards and made a few repairs.
Then we finished at Wheatley Elementary. Our three days there had us disassembling a playground at Delano, (to be installed at Wheatley later in the summer), painting some hallways, installing sound baffles, extensive tile cleaning and putting in curbing on their flower beds. Late this summer we finished installing the special needs playground at Wheatley, adding benches, a couple of trees, grass seed, etc. to make the playground a safe and fun place for the students.
Being on the move this much was a challenge and we thank all those who were patient with our ever changing locations. We look forward to sharing more information with you soon about upcoming projects.
