Silver Link Ministries

Serving Frail Older Adults

Silver Link Ministries maintains or creates a connection with older persons who become unable to fully engage in the life of the church through pastoral care and worship.  We link with our church family, their extended family or others in private homes or care homes.  Silver Link also supports caregivers and has special programming for persons with Alzheimer’s Disease or related disorders.

Worship Services are held in many care home settings at all levels of care each month.  The Order of Worship is in the Silver Link Resources column.  Each service has a volunteer team of liturgist, pianist, vocalist and communion servers.  On the 4th Friday of each month Silver Link hosts a Special Worship Service in Wesley Covenant Chapel for people who are frail or with dementia.

Positive Lights is a new program to Silver Link.  Founded in 2003 by Resurrection member Gregg Gimlin, Positive Lights seeks to praise staff in care homes (assisted living and skilled nursing) to encourage and support them as they do such important work.  Frequently, Silver Link offers a small gift and personal notes of thanks to staff in area care facilities.

The Silver Link Prayer Shawl team knits lap robes and prayer shawls.  They have a tag that reads: "This shawl was made for you by our Knitting Ministry at the Church of the Resurrection.  We prayed for you and asked the Lord to bless your life.  May this shawl be a comfort to you."  Resurrection Quilters piece lap robes as well.  These are taken to our church family in the hospital or care homes so they can be "wrapped in prayer."

Silver Link supports Caregivers through classes and one-on-one support.  A Caregiver Support Group will meet the Fourth Tuesday of each month in Room 221.  Each session will begin wtih fellowship and dessert, followed by a teaching time led by Rev. Karla woodward and Cheryl Greenough.  Teaching time will include a devotional, information on caregiver resources and self care.  Following we will break into small discussion groups at round tables of six.  There will be a caregiver coach at each table to facilitate discussion.  Caregiver coaches are caring, compassionate volunteers or Congregational Care Ministers who have traveled the journey of caregiving.  All caregivers are welcome including those caring for spouses, parents, long distance, loved ones with dementia, at home or in long term care, men who are caregivers, and those experiencing anticipatory grief.  Contact Fay Beasley at 913 232 4124 or fay.beasley@cor.org.

Silver Link Pastors, Chaplains, Congregational Care Ministers and volunteers support persons and their families in the end of life journey through pastoral visits.

Silver Link co-facilitates grief support classes which are offered throughout the year.  This class is open to all in the community.

Silver Link also leads a Pet Loss Ministry where cards and phone calls are made to those who have lost beloved pets.

Volunteers who have difficulty making one-on-one visits make regular caring phone calls and send regular greeting cards.

Myron's Ministry is a visitation ministry FOR men BY men.  It encourages friendship and fellowship for our men who can no longer fully engage in the life of the church.

Further resources for serving the frail, including video resources, are on the Center for Ministry with the Frail website.
