Resurrection Food Bank Ministry

The purpose of the Resurrection Food Bank Ministry is provide food aid to organizations assisting those in need and transform lives of donors, helpers, and recipients toward a deeper relationship with Jesus Christ.

The Food Bank Ministry delivers approximately 70 tons of food each year, through four major food drives.  Donations are delivered to local pantries and urban ministries to help feed the 150,000 people in the Kansas City area who are hungry or food insecure.

The ministry began in 2001 as to a way to help feed God’s people. Because the Food Bank is operated by church members who volunteer their time, food can be delivered at no cost to area pantries who otherwise might not be able to keep their shelves stocked.

Volunteer Opportunities

There are opportunities for small groups, families and individuals to get involved by collecting, sorting food, delivering food, or participating in the food drives.  You can make a difference!

  • The Souper Bowl Food Drive is Resurrection's largest food drive.  You can bring in your donated food and help distribute to local pantries.   There is also a competition between Small Groups to see who can bring in the most pounds of food!
  • The Neighborhood Food Drive is an opportunity for you to take your faith into your neighborhood and collect food for individuals in need.
  • The Workplace Food Drive is your chance to share your faith at work by coordinating a food drive.  The Food Bank will provide you with a kit of tools and suggestions to get your co-workers involved.
  • The Canned Art Sculpture is constructed in the Narthex to raise hunger awareness and encourage people to participate in the fight against hunger.  In 2007, the team built a sculpture called "Jesus Feeds the 5,000" using 3,500 donated canned goods.
  • Coordination, Sorting, and Delivery help is needed year round.  You can be an integral part of this team to ensure the food drives are successful and the donated items is distributed to those who need them.
