Urban Ministry Opportunities

By reaching out to Resurrection's ministry partners and friends across Kansas City, members of our congregation are building bridges of relationship, serving others and sharing Christ in a variety of urban contexts.

Central United Methodist Church (Kansas City, KS)

  • Located in the Armourdale neighborhood at 933 Argentine Blvd.
  • Prepare and serve a hot mid-day meal on weekeends to 125+ homeless and under-resourced men, women and children.  Contact Deb Allison at dallison2@kc.rr.com or 913-558-2523.
  • Prepare and serve a meal for approximately 30 people before an evening Alpha class.  Contact Sharon Albert at aaalbert@earthlink.net
  • Prepare and/or deliver sack lunches to men, women and children as needed.  Contact Kelly Stewart at harmonybykelly@aol.com.
  • Spend time with children and teen at the church gymnasium to play basketball and other sports on weeknights.  Contact Sharon Albert at aaalbert@earthlink.net

Community LINC (Kansas City, MO)

  • Located in six apartment buildings at 40th and Troost, this unique transitional housing program develops healthy, self-sufficient families.
  • Clean, prepare and stock apartments for new families throughout the year. 
  • Tutor children and teens ages 6-18, assisting with reading, math, computer skills, and homework on weeknights. 
  • Lead Bible study for small groups of children and teens, ages 6-18, on weeknights.
  • Mentor children and teens in small groups by planning and conducting activities around topics of mutual interest in the evenings or weekends.
  • Become a budget counselor for adults by helping them manage their personal and family budgets, moving them toward financial maturity, meeting on weeknights.
  • Participate in a monthly praise and worship service in the evening.

Grace United Ministries (Kansas City, MO)

  • Located in northeast Kansas City at 811 Benton Blvd.
  • Tutor children, grades K-5, after school, assisting with reading, math, and homework.  Contact Howard Spencer at howards@everestkc.net.
  • Prepare and serve a hot mid-day meal on weekends to homeless and under-resourced men, women and children.  Contact Jill Turnbull at jillsterturnbull@aol.com

Hope Care Center (Kanasas City, MO)

  • A residential treatment center for HIV/AIDS located at 83rd and Main Street.
  • Participate in a monthly worship service in the morning that is offered to residents challenged with HIV/HAIDS.

The Hope Center (Kansas City, MO)

  • An urban youth ministry located at 2800 E. Linwood Blvd.
  • Informational Meetings for prospective teachers and tutors for 2008-2009 school year. Meetings on July 11 or August 6. All must attend one of these meetings as well as four additional trainings. Contact Ann Carter at anngcarter@aol.com.
  • Lead Outreach Bible Study for children, grades K-5 in small groups on weeknights.  Contact Ann Carter at anngcarter@aol.com.
  • Tutor and mentor urban teenagers in small groups for the Leaders in Training (LIT) program weeknights.   Contact Ann Carter at anngcarter@aol.com.
  • Prepare meals for students and teachers in after-school progamming. Contact Cynthia Wilson at foodcoordinator@hopecenterkc.org.
  • Help with cleaning and indoor/outdoor maintenance at Hope Center properties.   Contact Ann Carter at anngcarter@aol.com.

Interfaith Hospitality Network (Shawnee Mission, KS)

  • Resurrection members serve at Asbury United Methodist Church, located 5400 W 75th Street.
  • Serve and host a hot meal for homeless individuals and families weeknights.
  • Provide and deliver meals to Asbury UMC weeknights.
  • Serve as an overnight host at Asbury UMC after dinner weeknights until breakfast.

 University United Methodist Church (Kansas City, KS)

  • Located in north Kansas City at 3148 Parallel Parkway.
  • Serve a dinner meal at "Life 4 Real" family program on 2nd and 4th Saturday nights.
  • Be a reading buddy for elementary students in Project Transformation summer program Monday through Thursday mornings.
  • Serve and share a meal with summer interns in Project Transformation
