OVERVIEW
The Bible devotes more space to Ahab and Jezebel than to any other of its bad characters, its "villains." The reason is that the historians of ancient Israel, looking back from the vantage point of the exile and trying to understand what went wrong, wanted us to understand how destructive Ahab and Jezebel's idolatry, self-centered and self-serving behavior and moral cowardice were. When we are honest with ourselves, we see that we struggle with qualities like Ahab's and qualities like Jezebel's. In the end, "what goes around comes around" proved true for them. The question for us is, are we ready for "payday"? And the reality is, we aren't--except for the fact that payday happened on Calvary, and Jesus has paid the price for us.
