Sermon Series:  Resurrection's 17th Anniversary

OVERVIEW

On the 17th anniversary of the founding of the United Methodist Church of the Resurrection, we first look back. This church was founded with the conviction that, just as Jesus came to "seek and to save the lost" (Luke 19:10), so we are called to take part in that divine mission. Through the challenges and the successes of our first seventeen years, commitment to that mission has been central to our identity.

When we look at the present, we see a church family that continues to reach out, to minister in powerful and caring ways, that continues to make a difference. In an inner-city school, in a fire truck for Greensburg, KS, or in a church in South Africa, Resurrection continues to make a difference by joining in the caring, healing, saving work of Jesus.

When we look to the future, we see exciting possibilities! We are only seventeen years old--a "teen-aged" church, just getting ready to really start trying our wings and discovering what God has in store for us. In deepened personal Bible study, in increasing numbers of people actively serving beyond the walls of the church, and in a project to develop a new Resurrection campus in conjunction with Grand Avenue Temple, calling 200 of our members to sell their suburban homes and move to lofts in downtown Kansas City, we focus our dreams for the year ahead, and re-submit ourselves to being agents of God's purpose.
