OVERVIEW

There are three critical questions that each of us needs to answer:

  1. Who is the captain of your life?
Someone is directing your life.  It may be you; it may be someone else; it may be God.  Your choice about how to answer this question is vital, because choosing the right Captain shapes everything else about your life.  Make God the captain of your life.
  2. Are you a passenger, or are you a member of the crew?
When we are passengers, it's "all about me."  For a while, that feels good, but it is an ultimately unsatisfying way to live.  So at some point in your spiritual journey, you will realize that it's NOT "all about me," and you will want to begin serving others and growing deeper spiritually.
  3. Are you going to stay in port all your life, or will you set out for the deep waters?
It's safe in port--no ship has ever hit an iceberg in port, or sunk on a hidden reef.  But sitting in port is not what ships are built for, and when the ship is equipped and ready to sail, the captain will set out for the adventure of the deep waters.  So it is in our spiritual life--we come to church to gain renewed strength and to equip ourselves, but the call of our Captain is that we set sail for the deeper waters of life, for service and adventure and risk and the deep satisfaction that comes with them.
