OVERVIEW
The Babylonians killed Zedekiah's sons and carried him into exile, which made him the last king of Israel--sort of. The prophets, however, spoke of a coming king, an heir of David, who would set things right, and whose reign would never end. Jesus came, and he claimed that he was fulfilling the prophecies. He was a very different kind of king--a king who cared for the strays and the outcasts, who valued love and service over power and wealth. The religious leaders of his day were the people who were most threatened and upset by him, by his refusal to accept their rules and restrictions. So the king God sent ended up being killed by God's people. But he rose again, he reigns forever, and he invites each one of us to become a citizen of his eternal kingdom. Everyone will serve someone--who do you choose as the king of your life?
