I Believe in the Holy Spirit
OVERVIEW
The Bible tells us that the Holy Spirit is God, a person rather than a thing or an "it," and is particularly the active presence of God with us day by day. Given that, the Bible also presents certain particular activities that are central to our experience of the Holy Spirit, including:
--The Spirit draws us to God even before we believe (what John Wesley called "prevenient grace")
--The Spirit is the active agent of "new birth," the spiritual regeneration of our hearts that leads to newness of life
--The Spirit bears fruit in our transformed lives (Gal. 5:22)
--The Spirit empowers all of God's people for witness, sharing the good news of salvation
--The Spirit gives every Christian gifts to be used in service, for the common good
--The Spirit pours the love of God into our hearts (Rom. 5:5)
--The Spirit creates unity among Christians
How we need all that the Holy Spirit does for us!
